Sol-U-Mel is on of my favorite products – Love the stuff. I used it to clean my carpets which I was ready to replace. They looked like new after cleaning . I use it as a deodorizer as well. Every product I have tried has lived up to its promise.
For a cleaner, I took black mold off of my daughter’s bedroom wall, you know the kind where they tell you to tear out the sheetrock and replace it! It did not come back for several years, and my daughter was no longer “allergic” to her room.
I worked in a building with bats in the rafters, and a paper towel with a little SolUMel by the vent made the odor bearable!
After a fender-bender, I took the blue paint off of my white car. I also took paint and smeared decals off of jackets. That takes a little elbow grease, so do a little spot at a time so you can watch your progress!
It works great on tick infestations on pets, but for routine use, I use the antibacterial body wash, and my dogs never get an infestation.
Dilute to spray on roses, phlox, tomatoes or other plants that are prone to fungus at the first sign of yellowing leaves or white film, and the SolUMel will stop it. I never have noticed insects, so I guess it works for them, too!
Sol-U-Mel is a foce that drives my bussiness, I always bring a bottle to an in home. And do a demo. And I always get the same reaction from so many that said WOW!!! with a product like that and it really works. Everything else had to be great. By the way they are. I love each and everyone of Melaleuca’s products. I recommend try it and you will love…everyone dose.
SD alcohol 40b or denatured alcohol, is ethanol with an non-drinkable additive. SD alcohol 40b can be found in many every day products such as facial cleasers, perfumes, baby sunscreen, lip gloss and whitening toothpaste. The smell you refer to is probably more from the melalueca oil.
It is safe to use around children and animals and safe on skin, just don’t allow them to drink it.
I have had great luck with it, including cleaning toddler stains off a living room set I was given and a food coloring stain on my counter top. The smell can get intense but not as much as Goo Gone. They also have a lemon blossom scent that is not as strong smelling.
I love this produts. I use it to clean pretty much everything.
I love sol-u-mel…i got mine in my order this month thinking i won’t need it but want to have it…well a few days ago my 5 yr old spilt some BIG RED SODA on our white couch well i pulled out my sol-u-mel prayed it out scrubbed a little and it brought the red stain right out… i’m not going to go without it anymore…
I have used Sol U Mel for various things including when my daughter threw her sippy cup full of juice onto my carpet, and on both of my couches… when my daughter had an “accident”… it removed the stain and the odor in both cases. I also use Sol U Mel to clean and remove odor from the waste baskets in my house. Love the fresh, clean smell of Sol U Mel!
Sol u Mel is so fabulous. I wanted to wear my best friends wedding dress for my beach wedding last year and she shipped it to me but warned it had some set in wine stains on it that she didn’t think it would come clean. I was able to get the several year old wine stains out with Sol u mel without damaging the fabric and it looked beautiful on my wedding day. I’ve also used it to remove permanent marker, cleaning up my dogs messes on carpet, cleaning my whirlpool tub jets, in laundry, in our carpet cleaning machine… I’m not sure there is anything I wouldn’t use Sol u mel on. WE LOVE it!
Can’t do without SoUumel…great for getting rid of dust mites…just spray onto mattresses and pillows…we have allergies and asthma in our family, so SolUmel is a must in our household! We also have indoor cats…SolUmel is so useful in cleaning their litter box (great in getting rid of odor in a non-toxic way)and also useful in cleaning the carpet (e.g. when the cats sometimes upchucks hairballs onto the carpet). Also, a friend had a young daughter who had a recent toilet accident in the car…SolUmel to the rescue! took out the smell out of the car seat!
Bonnie- I am looking at the bottle and I do not see that it says ethanol. Nor does it say anything about ever using it undiluted for any cleaning purpose. Most things only take about a tablespoon or two for a 16 ounce bottle. Sol-U-Mel is great stuff. Safe around pets and children, but still repels and/or kills flies, bees, lice, etc. My husband is a farrier and uses 1 ounce Sol-U-Mel, 1/4 ounce Tough & Tender, 20 drops T36-C5, and a drop of Lemon Bright in a 16 ounce bottle to kill thrush in horses feet and lice on their bodies in one application.
I am thinking that either you are somehow very mistaken in your reading of the label, or this is a fake review. Why? I do not know.

Can’t live without the Original Sol-u-Mel. It kills dustmites, smells, disinfects.
I’ve used it for so many things. I always put it in with my MelaPower in my wash, and it has gotten ink and permanent marker off of many things in the past that otherwise I would have had ruined.
Bonnie, I would first change the cat food that you are feeding you cats or have a vet check them out. I use Sol-U-Mel for almost everything! I don’t know where you see that it contains ethanol. I also have cats. When I need to clean a stain I will spray it heavily with Sol-U-Mel, scrub it with a brush and then use a shop wet vac to suck out the dirt from the carpet. You may also want to try Pre-Spot on the stain. I have removed finger nail polish from carpet that was in the carpet for two years. SOL-U-MEL WORKS!!! We also add a capful to our laundry right with the MelaPower. Vomit contains bile and acid that will be a tough stain to clean but Sol-U-Mel will get it done. Remember the stain has already soaked through the carpet to the floor so you need to do the same with a cleaner and then suck it out with a wet vac. If you can’t get it removed with Sol-U-Mel then try Touch and Tender or MelaPower. With anything make sure that you test a hidden area of your carpet first to see if it causes any color change.
We just purchased some products from Melaleuca, one of which was the Sol-U-Mel. We have two cats that frequently seem to vomit on our cream coloured carpet and we were anxious to try this product to see if it lived up to the promise that it would remove everything. I appllied it to two fairly large stains that were less than 24 hours old, using the product straight from the bottle as directed. I was surprised that it did not take the stains out and was concerned at the fumes from the product. Reading the bottle again, I saw that it needs to be used in a well ventilated room and that it contains ethanol. My question for other users is: is this product safe to use around young children? Does it usually take out this kind of pet stain or it it just that we have unusual pets whose vomit it especially toxic?

I am originally from the state of Maine and go back frequently to visit family and vacation there in the summer. This past summer we were there when the hurricane blew through. We were staying at a place on a lake and there were numerous pine trees all around. Needless to say our cars were covered with pine pitch. My Dad went to the auto body store and bought several products which stated they would remove pine pitch. None of them worked, I brought out the trusty Sol U Mel and used it full strength on the car then wiped with a clean cloth with just water on it. I was afaid to use it full strengh on the finish, but not to worry it worked like a charm. My Dad called it a miracle worker. Everyone we spoke with wanted the name of this miracle product I’m sure Melaluca got some new customers in Maine this past summer.
My daughter and I were painting our nails patriotic for the 4th of July. When my daughter went to pick up the bright red nail polish, the lid wasn’t on tight, and half of the bottle spilled out on my cream colored carpet. Needless to say it was a big mess. I got out my Sol-U-Mel and used it full strength, and it took every bit of it up. There’s not a week that goes by that I don’t use Sol-U-Mel for one reason or another. It’s a must have product, and so nice to have products in my home that don’t contain harsh chemicals. I wouldn’t be without them!

cleans bad stains out of carpets, its a deoderiser, the stuff can be used for so much, it is just awesome.
Sol u mel is AMAZING for many reasons. I have a list of 133 uses for Sol u mel alone. My husband uses it in the garage, in the cars, and of course for the carpets. I use it in everyroom of our home. In the laundry as a booster agent, in the kitchen/bathroom as a tough stain remover, in the playroom-to remove marker, crayon and pen. Once a month we put a bowl or two by our cold air returns for a mold/mildew resistent in our ductwork. My daughter and I use it as a fingernail polish remover. But my most beneficial use is in the vaporizer when my kids (which I have 5) have a bad cough. This helps them sleep peacefully. I can’t find a reason not to LOVE Sol u mel.
I love this product!! I use it to clean my toilets (gets out stains) and garbage disposal and even my dish washer when it has a smell. I also spray my carpets with it before i vacum, and my house smells so good. We just love this products and we can’t live with out them. I can give this product 10 stars! Removes Sharpie marker, ink from fabrics, tough stains on clothes even nail polish!! Smells incredible fresh and it works great to mop floors. One of Melaleuca’s favorite products.
My family and I just moved into a new house five months ago-suddenly I started noticing marker on the walls in every room I walked in.
